BAYSIDE BUMBLE METROGAINE

November 19, 2000

South-east Queensland

A Day by the Seaside

Seventy participants braved the early dawn and the mosquitoes to partake of the delights that Brisbane’s bayside has to offer by heading out on the Bayside Bumble Metrogaine. Threats of rain failed to dampen the spirits and did not, in any case, materialise. Indeed it soon became apparent that the sun and the humidity may be rather more of a problem than any thoughts of precipitation. Fortunately, by mid morning the cloud cover that had been sparse early on had thickened to the point that things cooled down a little making it rather more pleasant for all concerned.

My sincere thanks to all who chipped in to make the event both a reality and a success. Two months prior we had essentially nothing underway and no-one on the team. Paul Frylink obtained and produced the base map. Judy Scott happily volunteered to handle all the entries and administration, and did so with great efficiency and accuracy.

Tim Marchbank set an excellent course that provided the perfect challenge to all participants, regardless of their competitiveness or ambitions, despite being struck down with Chicken Pox only a month before the event. Nola McIntyre provided invaluable local knowledge into the course setting and then created the entire catering requirements from a zero base whilst the rest of us were out there mucking about by the bay. And Tony Z willingly answered the distress call at the end when it became obvious that more hands were required to get the wheel to turn.

Of course, there was John Raymond as well. Thankfully there always seems to be. John organised all the required equipment with his normal efficiency and good humour. The contributions of all of you are sincerely appreciated by everyone who rogaines.

We had the largest turnout for a Metrogaine that I can recall, and people seemed generally to have a great morning out in an ideal area. We look forward to seeing you at the next event.
